Approached with the opportunity to curate a mural installation for the grand opening of Federales Restaurant, Chicago,  Johalla Projects sought to create a strong visual impact that also spoke to Chicago’s culture and history. We commissioned artists Eric Lundquist, David Alvaredo, and the artists group En Masse, and together they conceptualized a free flowing black and white composition of surrealist characters bleeding into shifting spaces and hard lined graphic designs. In between dripping pie slices, melting eyes, and agave plants, the artists inlaid Chicago references and iconography throughout the mural. Encompassing the full span of the restaurant’s back wall, the surreal world of revel and lost inhibition enlivened the space with illogical imagination.
