Johalla Projects partnered with the Massachusetts-based retreat and hotel, TOURISTS. Located near MASS MoCA, TOURISTS is a 48-room property located on the banks of the Hoosic River and imbued with local cultural heritage, community arts engagement, and the serenity of the outdoor environment. Johalla served as an art consultant for the private hotel rooms and public communal spaces within TOURISTS. Open to the public in 2018, each space was curated with original works, prints and photographs, textiles and fiber art, and more to enhance the duality that TOURISTS’ celebrates between being a contemporary art cultural hub and rural oasis of rest and retreat.
Luftwerk
Summertime at Tourists means magical moments under the sun and stars. In collaboration with Johalla Projects, Chicago, Tourists is hosting “ritual” a 15-minute video screening that happens every night at sunset all summer long. Step outside and experience unique artistic experiences carefully curated for the outdoor environment. The first artist to participate is Luftwerk and their screening moves beyond the screen to blanket the river, trees, and grass with visual beauty.
